jd + iza | emerald lake wedding photographer
This wedding is from a few winters ago (yes, and by winterS I mean this wedding occurred years ago). Almost 3 years ago to be exact. I remember it quite well because I photographed this wedding in February on a Friday – and I delivered my daughter the following Tuesday. Yes, I photographed a wedding 3 days before I gave birth.
As much as you all wanted to know about when I delivered my baby, that’s not why it has taken me so long to blog this wedding.
Truthfully; I have been nervous and afraid to put this wedding up. This will be a long blog post because I can’t do this wedding injustice. There is just something about this wedding that holds a grip on my heart. By blogging it; it means its over. I have shared it with the world.
I met Iza a long time ago when my career first began. She is the sweetest human I have ever met. She is funny, kind, drop dead gorgeous and was a gem to work with. I had Iza hanging upside down in a tree sitting in a chair. She was game for anything and went along with my shenanigans without question. Iza was always game to work with me and offered to be a model. I couldn’t believe someone so successful, kind and busy would take the time out of her life to let me photograph her. To be honest, these shoots benefited me the most. It allowed me to push my career and put photographs out into the open. Iza; how do I ever thank you for that?
I met JD when Iza volunteered for a couples session. It was James Bond theme when JD rocked the most epic tuxedo, and Iza in a killer gown. It was a beautiful shoot; published and left me in awe. JD was a true match to Iza, their chemistry and love was beautiful. It made photographing them together simply effortless.
Then came a day when Iza and JD were engaged. I am lucky to be friends with Iza on Facebook and I rejoiced and was so excited and happy for them. What I didn’t expect was when they reached out to me to photograph their wedding. I am a confident person when it comes to photography; however this wedding made me beyond scared. Nervous. Uneasy. I felt novice. I felt like I was going to photograph my first wedding again.
I had built a friendship and relationship with these two, and to be handed down such an enormous blessing like this wedding; it was hard to swallow. However; I knew I had to; I knew I could. So I did.
I’ve sat on these images for nearly 3 years now. I have seen these photos grace the pages of Blush Magazine Inc. – they were featured as well in the Edmonton Journal. They are beautiful. I know I didn’t disappoint.
I have photographed many weddings now. Well over 200 weddings and sometimes, a handful of weddings have resonated deep down to my core. Where that wedding turned a key in my heart, in my creative soul, and it unlocked something special. Something I am able to carry with me and take on to the next wedding. A new puzzle piece in my journey as a photographer.
This wedding was like the golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. I didn’t care if I delivered my baby on the side of a road in a ditch (sorry Finlay…). I was photographing this wedding. I literally did not give doubt a single chance to derail me from this day. Thank you to Picture That Photography for being there by my side second shooting and being so super supportive.
I believe the images speak for themselves. When you combine beauty, kindness, and grace you are given the couple who were married. Combine the wedding planning talents of Atmosphere Wedding Planning, florals by FaBLOOMosity, and decor by Special Event Rentals you are provided with the talent of Edmonton’s finest in the wedding industry.
It is a bitter sweet moment to share this wedding, but I feel as we near the 3 year mark it’s time to share. I have watched this couple move across the world, and welcome two babies into their family. And now I want to share their wedding day.
Surrounded by close family and friends, they were married at Emerald Lake Lodge. A gorgeous, remote resort deep in the Rocky Mountains. It was such a snowy wedding; but that just made it much more beautiful. The food was delicious, and the guests were unforgettable. Many laughs were shared, stories told and new memories made.
Iza, JD – this thank you is well over due. However; thank you. Thank you for trusting me with your day. Thank you for giving me the opportunity, I will never forget it.
